CREW Careers: Building Opportunities®

Who: Girls ages 16-18 interested in commercial real estate careers

The Orlando chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network hosted its 4th Annual CREW Careers ™ Day on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the law offices of Baker & Hostetler LLP. This free interactive program introduced more than 60 female students from local high schools and Girl Scout troops to the many exciting career opportunities within the commercial real estate industry, including architecture, construction, environmental consulting, interior design, real estate development, law, financing, brokerage and so much more. In addition, a “Dress for Success” presentation with business clothing and make-up tips acclimated the girls to the fashion norms of the business environment today.

As local leading women in these various fields, CREW members demonstrated to the girls the skills required for success in the dynamic industry of commercial real estate. Ben Noel, Executive Director of Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) provided the key note address. Exciting hands-on workshops challenged the girls to create unique conceptual development projects representing the various components of the highly-anticipated future Downtown Creative Village. Industry and community leaders provided insightful “ask the expert” advice and suggestions to the teams of 9 to 10 girls each. The projects were evaluated by a panel of judges and the teams with the top two projects received awards. Each participant received a tote bag of donated items from multiple sponsors and donors supporting the program, including the Barton Malow Company and Lowndes Drosdick Doster Kantor & Reed P.A. as the “title sponsors” for the event.

The program was developed by CREW Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CREW Network. Girls will join local leading businesswomen to learn the skills they will need to be successful in this dynamic industry, and they will have the opportunity to work within teams to create their own development project!
